"Over There, Stop Him!" A look at Star Wars: Legion Scout Troopers

With the announcement of Scout Troopers the Empire now has a counterpart to the Rebels upcoming Commandos. Lets take a look at what we know about the Empires first Special Forces unit.

Like the Rebel Commandos, the Scout Troopers can be deployed in two configurations. Either a small but deadly strike team of two models or a highly mobile four man team, perfect for moving in and securing positions ahead of the opponent.

Lets take a look at the spread and see what they have going for them.

Like most other trooper unit, the Scout troopers come with seven models, including a leader, four troopers and two specialists. We don't have a lot of info on the specialists yet but we do know that one will be a sniper type unit sporting a DTL-19x sniper blaster, the other carrying Sonic Charge's (which are said to have some sort of movement disruption) in a bag, corresponding to the charge tokens you see in the spread. each specialist corresponding to a aggressive or control archetype.

Lets break down the Scout Troopers upgrade card that we see.

First of all we have "Low Profile" allowing them extra defense from light cover such as foliage, this is great for keeping them mobile in a dense wooded or non-urban environment. this also works to give them more places to hold out while holding an objective.

Next up is "Scout 1". This lets them start range one into the board, giving them a head start toward an objective or allowing them to move into an advantage even before the game starts.

And lastly "Sharpshooter 1" giving them advantages vs. units who are in cover.

As for Offensive capability, they are much more accurate than standard troopers but have a shorter range, adding two black dice to the attack pool at range 1-2 using their EC-17 Hold-out Blaster. range shouldn't be too much of an issue with the mobility that they have going for them.

As for Defense they only roll white dice but get a defensive surge which will put them slightly ahead of rebel troopers for survivability when paired with "Low Profile".

It is hard to make out the exact cost of the 4 man team but it looks like it should be 60 points, putting them in line with their Rebel Commando counterpart, based on this its safe to assume the 2 man team will be base costed around 16 points.

As of right now it is possible to take up to tree units of these guys, and being troopers who are able to capture objectives its hard to see why you wouldn't max out on them, for the cost of one set of speeder bikes you get strike team and one 4 man team, allowing you an extra precious activation.
